Major Cities

Lucerne is a town straight out of a fairy tale. It could be the bright turquoise water coursing through the River Reuss, the narrow cobblestone streets, covered bridges or the gentle glide of swans over Lake Lucerne, but there is an unmistakable magical ambiance that radiates through this city. Plus, Lucerne is the perfect base to the nearby mountains for a dose of Swiss nature.

Brunnen is a popular vacation resort situated on the shores of Lake Lucerne in the canton of Schwyz. The town boasts breathtaking views of the Urnersee to the east, and across to the Burgenstock and Gotthard Massif. Thanks to its central location amidst a diverse mountain and lakeside scenery, Brunnen is an ideal starting point for excursions in central Switzerland.

Dramatically located above Lake Lucerne, Bürgenstock is considered to be the most luxurious resort in the region. Many movie stars have lived here, swelling the resort`s international reputation for its class and luxury. One of the great walks of central Switzerland, the Bürgenstock-Felsenweg trail, begins here.

Just an hour away from Zurich, Vitznau is a charming village located at the foot of the Rigi, on a bay of Lake Lucerne. It offers a variety of facilities like swimming in the lake, indoor and outdoor pools, and tennis courts. There are also many hiking trails, ideal for long walks and for admiring the beauty of the mountains around it.

The quaint, charming holiday resort of Weggis is located on the sunny side of Mount Rigi and on the shore of Lake Lucerne. The town offers serenity and relaxation with breathtaking lake and mountain views in every direction. The region on the southern flank of the Rigi is often referred to as the `Riviera` of central Switzerland.

WHY CENTRAL SWITZERLAND?

It doesn`t get much more Swiss than Central Switzerland. Its cantons are jammed packed with history and culture and the pristine landscapes, gleaming lakes and towering mountaintops are just begging to be explored. It`s where the history of modern Switzerland began way back in the 13th century.
